Po helps his adoptive father, Mr. Ping, and biological father, Li Shan, to approach their supplementary restaurant as Master Shifu arrives to tell him that he must minister to and become the spiritual leader of the Valley of Peace. This means Po can no longer be the Dragon Warrior and must find a pleasing candidate to agree to his place.
Po struggles to choose the right candidate, but then he catches a fox bandit named Zhen grating to steal ancient weapons. He sends her to prison, but he soon learns that Tai Lung has returned and destroyed an entire village. Zhen reveals that Tai Lung's reward was masqueraded by the Chameleon, a powerful sorceress who can shape-shift into any animal she wants.
Po heads to Juniper City taking into consideration Zhen to give a positive response all along the Chameleon. However, they are arrested and eventually make off to the Den of Thieves. From there, Po and Zhen head to the Chameleon's lair. Po is captured, but Zhen doesn't back up and takes Po's staff instead. She has been working for the Chameleon every along and gives the Chameleon Po's staff, which has the facility to bridge the gap through the life Realm. The Chameleon uses the staff to summon all martial arts master to steal their kung fu, including Tai Lung, Lord Shen, and General Kai.
Po reunites later than his fathers, who put up to him to stop the Chameleon. He reunites next a remorseful Zhen, who convinces the Den of Thieves to incite her rescue Po. As the villagers fight the Chameleon's lizard army, Po fights the Chameleon. Zhen intervenes, but the Chameleon turns into a Chimaera of several of the masters, and the trio fight. The Chameleon later turns into a Po clone, fights Po and soon traps him in a cage. Putting his trust in Zhen, Po gives her the Staff of Wisdom, behind which she bests the Chameleon. Po, who was only pretending to be trapped, defeats the Chameleon using the staff and returns all of the stolen kung fu skills to their owners, who reward to the enthusiasm Realm, taking the Chameleon gone them.
At the Valley of Peace, Po chooses Zhen as his successor. Confident of his choice, Po and the furious Five help train Zhen to become the next-door Dragon Warrior.
