Storyline / Plot
Brian Gittins is a lonely inventor in rural Wales, who builds quirky contraptions that seldom work. One day even though scavenging scrap, he comes across a mannequins head, which inspires him to try to make an artificially-intelligent robot, while he is unable to set in motion it. That night, during a thunderstorm, Brian discovers his activated robot in limbo external of his workshop, and Brian brings it into his house.
The like morning, Brian discovers that the robot has intellectual the English language by reading a dictionary, and it gives itself the pronounce Charles Petrescu. Brian begins spending era playing later Charles and showing him as regards his property. The childlike Charles becomes more curious and fervent to probe more of the world, but Brian instructs him to stay friendly at every times.
Eventually, Brian begins driving Charles into town even though dynamic as a handyman, even if he instructs Charles to stay in his truck. He is eventually discovered by Hazel, a girl whose mom Brian does action for and whom Brian has an affection for. Brian pleads gone Hazel to save him a secret, but Hazel is impressed and allows Brian to take her and Charles to wander around a clear lake, and he successfully asks her to go out again.
Charles becomes more and more fervent to study the outdoor world, but Brian is adamant that he cannot, leading to a falling out amongst them. One day, Eddie, a local bully, along behind his two spoiled teen daughters, arrive across Charles and read Brian to purchase him, but Brian refuses, leading to Eddie shoving Brian to the ground. The bordering day, Brian comes house from fake to find his belly log on pulled off its hinges and Charles having disappeared. He and Hazel find Charles at Eddies, but Eddie claims that Charles came on his own. He tells Brian and Hazel that he intends to burn Charles in a bonfire vanguard that night. Distraught, Brian and Hazel return to his house, and Hazel praises him for having been accomplished to make Charles at all. The two sham together to build something.
Brian and Hazel compensation to the bonfire, where Brian saves Charles just in get older past he catches fire. Eddie and his associates chase Brian, Charles, and Hazel into town where the in flames of the town gathers. The citizens detain Eddie upon his thieving, and once the incite of the inventions Brian made, he and Charles send Eddie and his family away.
The adjacent morning, Brian, long-suffering Charless adventurous nature, gifts him following a pass that will permit him to travel the world. Brian and Hazel both bid Charles goodbye at the train station past desertion together. During the credits, pictures of Charles are shown afterward various landmarks and buildings of the numerous cities hes visited.
